Floor sanding FAQ

Do I have to completely empty my refrigerator, freezer and pantry before I sand and varnish my floors?

If the job involves sanding and varnishing a large area of your floor with an oil crystal finish.
It’s a good idea to empty the fridge, freezer and pantry (food that hasn’t been opened may remain. Example: cans, sealed jars, etc.).

With a Synteko and Cristal finish, you’re obliged to empty everything because it’s too toxic.

I’ve removed the pre-wax that covered my kitchen floor and there’s a lot of glue. Can I have this floor sanded and varnished?

When using pre-wax glue, it is always possible to sand and varnish the floor.
For best results, however, we recommend using Bona Traffic HD finish.

With oil-based crystal and Synteko finishes, there is a risk that the glue will rise to the surface and spill out a little on each side of the boards.
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to know in advance whether or not there will be a reaction caused by the products.

When I replaced my furniture, I unfortunately made a deep indentation.
Is there any way to repair my floor?

Unfortunately, the only way to solve this problem is to re-sand and re-varnish the part again.
A local repair will leave marks.

My floor is currently stained. Is it possible to re-stain it with another color later?

It is always possible to stain a previously already stained.
However, if the existing color is dark, and your new color is light, you’ll probably still notice the old color between the boards.
The risk is much lower if the existing color is light.

What causes the cracks between the boards and what can I do to prevent this?

During the cold season, home heating dries out the ambient air, and hardwood flooring reacts to this drop in humidity by shrinking, causing gaps, cracks or flaking between the boards.
If properly controlled, an air exchanger can reduce humidity levels in some cases.

To avoid problems of this nature, we recommend maintaining a relative humidity level of 40% to 45% in the home.
To achieve this, you need to equip your home with a hygrometer (an instrument for measuring the level of humidity in the ambient air, costing less than $30) and a humidifier, which will enable you to control the level of relative humidity in the house.

When the work was completed, white lines appeared in the vestibule, why?

Winter boots can leave calcium between the wood slats, causing a reaction with varnishes.
To solve the problem, make sure you have a rug in the entrance hall.
